ReOpening Wrap Up:
School Visits, Council Testimony & Responding to Ward 7

Schools opened a month ago, and the big questions on everyone’s minds is are:
  • Are we keeping kids and educators safe?
  • Are the buildings ready?
I have been visiting schools with Councilmember Gray and the Ward 7 Education Council to make sure we can answer yes to both of those questions.

These visits, along with connections with educators and families are informing my focus around school reopening. Recently, I tested before the DC Council at the reopening and facilities readiness hearings to make sure our concerns are on the record and do not go unaddressed.

Safe Passage

Now that school is back in session, I spent some time with East River Strengthening Collaborative checking out what safe passage looks like for students on Minnesota Avenue, one of our busiest major thoroughfares.

Looking forward to when the official initiative gets off the ground this fall.
